The Marshall Store in Point Reyes is my go-to oyster spot! Tucked away on Highway 1, it's super homey thanks to Shannon and the friendly crew. The oysters are incredibly fresh, and the view of Tomales Bay just adds to the charm. Every visit feels special, and I can't recommend it enough if you're in the area. Perfect for a laid-back and unpretentious seafood experience!

Up the coast from point Reyes national seashore is a tiny outpost for local seafood. I was confused by the two queues and two different ordering at the counter options, but recommend opting for ordering downstairs where you can then sit out on the patio enjoying the sunshine and weather. The clam chowder was standard, nice chunks of clam but it was lukewarm not piping hot and it had a muted flavor profile I thought, not enough richness and creaminess. What I really enjoyed was the shrimp poboy sandwich- the cheesy bread was fantastic super crisp and full of flavor, the shrimps were fat, busting out of the sandwich and the sauces and pickled veggies on the side truly stole the show. The sandwich was decadent and filling for two people to share and I felt like it was a good value compared to the rest of the menu. The oysters were tasty but boy are they pricey, $25 for 6 wow breaking any budget! I can't recommend them based on sheer oyster to dollar ratio alone. The cilantro oyster sauce was heaven so good as a topping. Service is not great, you order at the counter and then you're forgotten about we tried to wave down a server because our soups were taking forever and we had already gotten all our other food and no one could be bothered to help! Overall some hits and some misses but I had a good time and left full!

So I think I've been to all the seafood eateries/shacks along this stretch of Highway 1 that hugs the southside of Tomales Bay. There are 2 main oyster companies out here and both have their eateries. Hog Island has Tony's if you want more of a restaurant vibe than say picnic. And Tomales Bay Oyster Co. has this place, as their farm is just a rural oyster farm. I don't even think they allow people to picnic there anymore as it just produced too much of a mess. But they've got The Marshall Store now as an outlet for people who want prepared food. Finally got to try, even though I've gotten oysters from their farm, many, many times. This place is more of a roadside shack, than say Tony's, which has more upscale vibes. Tony's has table service and more conventional bathrooms. Here you order at the register, and everything gets brought out. And the bathrooms here are porta-potties with washing stations. But the pricing here is comparable to Tony's, so you do you with that info. What's good for one may not be for another. Not a fan of this type of ordering, but I got in line. It just seems like in this style there is more round around for the consumer. LIke in table service, they'll usually ask you what you want to drink first so it is out of the way. Here I was almost ready to pay, then asked what their options for drinks are, as it wasn't listed anywhere. Cashier points to a fridge below the counter and says take your pick. There's some seating indoors but because it is a shack, it gets stuffy in there. Most of the seating is outdoors right on the bay, great friggin' views. But their seats are those cheapie metal stools, and I think every table is a high top or a counter. Not comfy at all. Maybe it is to get people in and out without much lingering, as traffic flows here. Chorizo Fish Stew ($13/4*) Decent sized bowl, not a tiny little cup. Great broth balanced with tomato, seafood stock and chorizo. Need zero adjustments, maybe a few drops of squeezed lemon. Broth itself was not thick but made thick with all the broken seafood dispersed throughout. I didn't like the look of it as it was all mushy lookin', but it sure tasted really good. I think the more fancier places will add the fish and shrimp chunks per order so it flash cooks and stays intact. Here it looks like the fish gets cooked all at once and probably gets more broken as it sits. Oysters Rockefeller ($27 for 6/4*) I rarely will order cooked oysters if raw oysters are to be had. But I wanted to try something new, so I went here. They do use bigger oysters for their grilling preps so you do still get a quite meaty bite. I often stayed away from this dish as many restaurants put a white sauce with their spinach and always just felt it was way too heavy for such a delicate shellfish. But here they just use a tasty sauteed spinach, some parm and breadcrumbs. Then they'll cook the oyster with garlic butter and allow everything to meld. And for that pricey $27 for a half dozen plate, they do give you a monster portion of garlic bread, like what seems like half of one of those round artisanal loaves. There was so much bread that I only ate half and packed the rest for my camp dinner that night. And this bread was so hearty that the crust was crazy hard. I love a thick robust crust on a bread, but this was on the extreme side. I actually ripped the crust into smaller chunks and threw it into my soup to soften. It sure softened it and made the soup very filling. So I turned an iffy situation into a delcious one. Lol Smoked Trout Plate ($24/3.5*) I got this for take-away as to have it for dinner at the campsite later. Very legit trout, both in portion and in quality. Seemed like a cold smoke as the trout remained velvet smooth with a nice kiss of smoke. If I can find out who supplies them of this trout, I would order it for my home. Now outside of that trout, everything else was just meh. A small scoop of a creamy white cheese (fromage blanc), which I liked the texture, but it is one bland cheese. At least commercial cream cheese has tang and salt. The crostinis were a decent vehicle but I used my leftover garlic bread, since I had it, a much better vehicle. And this came with 3 types of pickled veggies, carrots, onions and actual bread n butter pickle chips. Kind of an overload on things tart for just one piece of trout. So, trout awesome, everything else just meh. I'd still come back tho cuz there are other things I'd like to try. And depending on the day you come, somethings may be here, while other times not. Like I saw a crab sandwich online but not the day I went. I think I'd prefer Tony's over this place as I prefer more of a full service restaurant experience, but I'd come here as a strong second choice.

I came to the Marshall store on a Tuesday, which is a shuck your own oyster day. My boyfriend and I are not very skilled at doing this type of thing, so Anthony came out to help us, even though there was a line outside the door! He was so sweet for that, and I am so grateful to him. Earlier, he very graciously explained to me what types of oysters they caught that day, the different flavors of them, and his recommendations. We ended up loving all of them, and it was so much fun. My recommendation is to come early, (most places and Marshall close at four which means they might even start cleaning around three) and on a weekend if you don't know how to be a competent oyster shucker! Then go oyster hopping, cheese tasting, etc! It's a great way to spend a day.

Our favorite lunch stop after a morning of hiking in the area. We are really only here for the oysters, but did enjoy some of the other sandwiches (po boy, lobster roll) we were here. There are a lot of other locations in the area that sell similar items, but to the grilled oysters, here are our absolute favorite. I am personally a sucker for the Rockefeller oysters. Seating is mostly outdoor, so bring a thick jacket during the colder weather. Otherwise, service is very friendly and quick and parking is usually OK when it's not peak hours. We will be back!

Saturday, it was a gorgeous day for a road trip up Hwy 1! We arrived at 1 with no line to order! We ordered 2 beers, 6 raw oysters for $24 and split a clam chowder for $13. We waited on the bright sunshiney deck on the water for maybe 5 minutes while enjoying our beers. The clam chowder had large pieces of clam that were tender but chewy and delicious. I like a chowder that has a bit more thyme, onion, and garlic flavor but this was a very nice canvas upon which the clam flavor was the focus! The oysters were wonderful as was the vinegary mignonette. The garlic bread was the best I've had in ages! Fabulous bread that was chewy with a moist crumb served as the vehicle for pure butter goodness with fresh garlic and shallots. So good and rich! The service was fast, and friendly. I would recommend this place!

We took a trip to the Point Reyes area for my sister-in-law's birthday weekend bonanza and stumbled upon this charming little oyster spot. With ample outdoor seating right by the water, it's a perfect place to enjoy some fresh air and stunning views. You order inside, and the food magically appears at your table--no long waits, which was a blessing since our stomachs were staging a protest. The menu is like an all-you-can-eat dream come true. We dove into a sandwich so colossal it could've fed a small army, clam chowder, broiled oysters, a smoked trout plate, pickles, tostadas, and, of course, wine. Everything was scrumptious and hit the spot. We'll definitely be back for round two of this seafood feast!

Always a good set of oysters at the Marshall store! Love the oysters any style, but I do love Rockefeller. The shrimp poboy was delicious as well! Certainly worth a shot if you're driving by. Grab a beer or wine and some oysters and some of the garlic bread and you won't be mad. The staff is very nice and helpful. The ambiance is very casual, dress warm for outdoor seating!

A wonderful gem in Marshall, California! Dine here for some hearty seafood overlooking the beautiful Tomales Bay! The weather can be a bit unpredictable and suggest you bring some blankets, a jacket and/or a beanie to keep your head warm or hair from flying in the wind. The seafood is amazing and if you're indecisive choose one because you cannot go wrong! There are a plethora of raw and cooked oysters that suit your fancy. My favorite is the cold raw oysters! The Lobster roll was good but lacked a little seasoning. The Clam chowder is creamy and had loads of clams and potatoes. Another group favorite was the fish tacos! The seating is sparse and going early is recommended. Counter service was nice and staff were friendly. No shortage of quality and the best quality! Enjoy!
